How Aussies Can Help

Here’s information I got from the Australian Red Cross website for Australians who want to donate to support the rescue and relief operations in the Philippines.

Typhoon Ketsana (Philippines and Viet Nam) Appeal 2009

Australian Red Cross is accepting monetary donations to support relief, rehabilitation and recovery activities for communities affected by the disaster.

The funds raised through this appeal will be used to:

  • support relief, rehabilitation and recovery activities for communities affected by the disaster
  • send specialist aid workers to assist in the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement response
  • support Australian Red Cross programs of assistance in the affected areas.

Please note: Australian Red Cross will not deduct more than 10% of any donation for an international appeal to cover appeal costs. Should the funds raised exceed the amount required to meet the immediate and longer term needs of the people in the affected areas, Australian Red Cross will direct the excess funds to other emergency preparedness and response initiatives in the Asia Pacific region. Any interest earned on donations will be invested back into the appeal.

To donate via the ARC, click here. There’s also a list from World News Australia of other ways Aussies can help victims of typhoon Ketsana. With all these activities going around, you could consider this as one of those best weight loss programs, so getting involved is the key.
