Ruby Tuesday: Grevillea

It’s my first time to join Ruby Tuesday. I love taking photos and recently, I happened to take one that’ll suit this meme.

Grevillea

Grevillea

This is a Grevillea flower. It doesn’t look like a typical flower if you ask me but it really is. Our neighbor has one and while I was in the backyard taking photos of my Erin, I noticed one bloom was hanging over our side of the fence. Here’s more info on Grevilleas from Wikipedia:

Grevillea is a diverse genus of about 360 species of evergreen flowering plants in the protea family Proteaceae, native to Australia, New Guinea, New Caledonia, and Sulawesi. It was named in honour of Charles Francis Greville. The species range from prostrate shrubs less than 0.5 m tall to trees 35 m tall. Common names include Grevillea, Spider Flower, Silky-oak and Toothbrush.

Alright, I’m off to daydream on Caribbean cruises now. LOL. Ciao! ;)

I have not seen such a flower in our climate. But it is delicate, and a great red!

What a lovely capture of textures and tones.

We have a plant here, called the bottle brush bush, which looks similar.

It is a lovely flower! I can see why it would be called toothbrush.

My post is at Carletta’s Captures.
