The Party That Was

The party yesterday was a blast!  Food was overflowing. Almost everyone we invited came. And we got gifts for our home.

It was my first time to cook, prepare and contribute something (just my regular tuna pasta and Pinoy fruit salad) for a really big crowd with no one else to help me at home. J was busy running errands of sorts while I was left to fend for myself in the kitchen. It was bad enough that I had to do everything myself. But with all the aromas going around, I ended up with an attack of rhinitis. I was practically sneezing the whole time I was cooking. Not in the food, of course. LOL.

This is not the last of the parties here. That’s for sure. Buti na lang potluck ang style so work is distributed in the group. But I hope I don’t get the allergies again and I can whip up something new and yummy. Ah yes, I am now domesticated.

We did a little shopping today at the Tuggeranong Hyperdome and stopped by Target to check out some items. Take a look at our recent grabs which were on sale this week at half the price! They were quite a steal.

I think we might be going back to buy more of those towels. It’s such a good deal for a pack which includes two bath towels, a hand towel and a face towel. Also, since autumn in Canberra is underway and winter is coming in the next few months, we decided to buy our first electric blanket to keep us warm on those cold nights.

Aeon Flux

We spent yesterday at the malls, buying stuff for our party tomorrow. To cap the day, J and I had dinner at Lisboa, a Portuguese-inspired restaurant, and watched Aeon Flux at Hoyt’s.

The movie was quite satisfactory, ala Matrix. But I never expected Charlize Theron to be so good in portraying her kick-ass role as Aeon Flux. No doubt, she carried it very well, with looks to boot. Her outfits, though quite futuristic, were amazing, not to mention the wedges that went with it.

The action flick was a bit violent and had some gory scenes in it, but otherwise, it was okay. It reminded me of the film The Island, which starred  Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson, as it had similar story lines to it.

Endless Parties

This was what my brother-in-law E warned me about. Belonging to a big Filipino community, expect welcome parties to abound.  I have only been here for a week and so far,  I have already attended 3 parties/dinners that we were invited to.

Then there’s a big one coming up this Sunday night. Actually, I am to contribute a dish or two but this one was originally organized by one of the ninangs from our wedding and my sister-in-law PJ. We’re expecting around 60 to 70 people to attend, thus leading us to get a bigger venue to hold the dinner party.

Oh wow… Would you know that J is more nervous about this than our grand reception last December? hehe.. And he has to give a ‘thank-you’ speech all over again. (Good luck, Beh! ) I just hope the food and drinks are more than enough.
